A Good Man is Hard to Find

Characterization of A Good Man is Hard to Find
The characterization of A Good Man is Hard to Find, in my opinion was lacking a little in some ways, but a little excessive in others. I think that the author could have gone a little more in depth in the character's thoughts, but went a little overboard with the descriptions of the character's clothing and about the surroundings through out the story.
Although I somewhat liked the descriptions that the author gave in the story, I feel that the descriptions were a little excessive and they made the story seem to drag a little. The reason that I liked the descriptions was, during the time I was reading the story; I could really picture what a character looked like and what the surroundings looked like. It seemed to be as if I had been there before, or was right there in the car with them. In fact, the only time in the story I felt a twinge of excitement was when one of the Misfit's sidekicks brought back the shirt that Bailey had been wearing. If the author had left out the part where she described his shirt the part probably would not have had much effect on me (much like the rest of the story.)
In my opinion, the story was a little boring because it used stereotypical characters. The overbearing grandmother, the subdued mother, the uptight father, and the bratty children, all were stereotypes.
I feel that if the author would have gone into the character's minds and let us know what each one was thinking at any given time instead of just having characters that were stereotypes the story would have been a little more interesting. For instance, maybe the author could have let us know what Bailey, the father, was thinking when the grandmother was telling stories to the children or fussing over his driving. If the author had included something like that in the story, then maybe we could understand why Bailey was so uptight and somewhat hateful toward his mother.
