Is there a double standard that exists in US immigration policies? Are there preferences depending on what country you are coming from? Treatment between Haitians and Cubans, when they arrive to the United States, differs. When Cubans reach the U.S. they are racketed through immigration, and within a short period of time are released to their family. The American experience for Haitians is the contrary. The treatment is unfair, affects our lives, and may be possible to solve. This situation has at many times divided the community of Miami. This is a local and state problem. It affects anyone who is or knows someone that migrated to this country. Discrimination still occurs among us. The distinction of the ways Cubans and Haitians are dealt with is a prime example. Are there any reasons behind the method the two different groups are handled? The variation in management between Haitians and Cubans is a situation that could perhaps have a resolution.

It is also a state problem because of our laws that are unfair to some. se that come to the United States in search of a better life. The best thing to do is for the community to unite, and make themselves heard. While they continue to desperately wait and see if they will be offered the equal opportunity. These are the things that at certain times can separate Miami into two. ” Another possible solution to this discrimination dilemma is allowing Haitians the right to request a hearing to prove they dread persecution at home. The Beacon Journal (2000) wrote, “The Haitian’s contrast Elian’s case with that of two Haitian children who were separated from their mother that was brought ashore for medical treatment, while the children were returned to Haiti. He claims there is no sure solution to this problem. But these circumstances make it unreasonable to others, which depart their homelands, like most Cubans, in search of an improved existing. This is especially true to Haitians. ” Cubans who make it to the United States are allowed to stay while others must establish asylum claims under more rigorous standards”, says the Us Border Control. Many people see eye to eye that the laws are unfair. Cubans have preferences that many other from other countries do not have.
