Sports at It's Finest

             Sports have played an important role in today's society. The obsession of sports has affected and created many new lifestyles to Americans. George Felton asks himself, "Why do I love wrestling (Felton 332)?" He loves wrestling because there are a few qualities that drew him to professional wrestling. Those very same qualities of wrestling draw us to other sports. Robert Katz, the author of "My Farewell to Fandom", states that the obsession with sports is usually started at a young age in life. Although America is obsessed with sports, for us sports are a positive passion.
             Robert Katz argues about three points of distraction, money, and time and how leisure activities interfere with the important activities of everyday life . It takes a great deal of work to keep up in school and be involved in other activities. During school it is easy to get away from homework, friends, and stress and make your way to the basketball court or the golf course. I find it easier to relax and get away from my studies when I shoot hoops or play some golf. Golfing in tournaments or playing in a serious game of basketball is always an exciting event for me. I love the competition and the adrenalin that builds up. Both of these activities are a stress release for me, but I also find time to finish my homework.
             Playing basketball and golfing are big parts of my life. My experiences are mostly stress free, depending on the competition, but also can be very frustrating at times. According to both Felton and Katz, sports or other leisure activities can sometimes take a lot of money and time. Golf happens to be my most expensive sport by far. My clubs alone, cost over $1000 and that does not include my bag, shoes, golf balls and other accessories. In basketball, the only cost there happens to be the shoes.
