Adopt A Dad

Who says that men can't raise children? According to the American society, single fatherhood is almost unheard of. We, as society, are so accustomed to seeing women with children and no father figure that we begin to think that single motherhood is the status quo. But isn't this considered one-sided in today's world? There are men that raise their own kids or adopt to raise by themselves. A great example of single fatherhood is displayed in the movie Big Daddy (1999).Although rated as a comedy with lots of childish antics performed, this movie is at the top of the list as proof that men too can raise children without a mother around. The movie's father character, Sonny, is left alone to raise a child. In an effort to impress his girlfriend, he adopts a five-year-old boy. He has no clue of what fatherhood entails except for what he saw as a child. Yet, his childhood alone isn't enough to aid him in knowing the ins and outs of caring for a kid. Although he adopts Julian for the wrong reason, he follows all the right paths to be a Big Daddy to this little boy and show him what being a man is all about.Big Daddy clearly illustrates what I mean when I say that men too can raise children alone. Women have been known to b

The film goes on to show us that the adoption was challenged and Julian, Sonny, friends, and a very unexpected family member, must go to trial for finalization. Consequently nothing is done to resolve seemingly simple problems. Julian began to look up to Sonny and wanted to be just like him. This role makes Sonny not only the backbone but the role model and "leader" in Julian's eyes. There are shelters for single mothers and children as well as special programs and schools for single moms, but what about the men. e the backbone in most families but in this case, Sonny is all Julian has and is the only person Julian can look to for guidance. Wake up! If we don't start to make a difference today, there will be no tomorrow! . Once again, society has fallen flat on its face with its ludicrous and sexist views. In this case, Sonny ensured that Julian was the main and only focus of the case. Julian was discretely involved in the case by getting the opportunity to personally speak with the judge. His father, his "friends", and even his girlfriend, whom he went through all the trouble for, disagreed with his actions. His father obviously forgot about his own past and that he too was immature at the time of Sonny's birth. The American society looks down upon men raising children alone, thinking that it is practically impossible for a man to do what has been considered for so long, "a woman's job". He got a chance to let the judge know how he felt so that the decision made would satisfy his wishes. Society has fallen flat on its face with the overflow of lopsidedness.
