Public Schools vs. Private Schools
A lot of controversy has been raised over public schooling versus private schooling. Much debate has been made about the advantages and disadvantages of public and private schools. However, the choice lies with the parents of school age children. Many aspects must be reviewed before a choice can be made. These aspects include effectiveness of both types of school systems, religious background, proper funding, personal educational beliefs, and racial integration as well as many others. Some believe public schools are not effective in teaching students necessary skills. Part of this belief stems from the fact that public schools have larger classrooms than private schools. Therefore, less student to teacher communication is achieved. Some children are simply miserable and unable to learn in the large public schools we have created (Chenowith T08). However, studies have shown that it is private schools who have underqualified teachers and use outdated materials. On the other hand, more teacher to student interaction means a more in-depth understanding of material in many cases. Currently only about twelve percent of elementary and secondary school-age students are enrolled in private s
Therefore, most students in private schools receive higher grades than comparable students in public schools. Religious preferences are also sometimes considered before school placement is decided. I cannot chose the students my child will attend school with. Therefore, a distinction cannot really be made as to which is better for eventually attaining higher scores on standardized achievement tests. No one can really say which is better. Educational choice is a major decision that should not be taken lightly. Racial integration is also a major issue in regard to public and private schools. My opinion is that a well-rounded education consists of a mixture of subjects like English, Math, and History as well as the Bible. Some believe strong influence should be placed in certain subjects. Next, I believe small classroom size is important. Personal opinion is a major precursor in the acceptance of these factors. I scored well on standardized tests and maintained good grades. Much emphasis has also been placed on achievement scores of students in both public and private schools.
