McDonaldization in History
In 1776 the U.S. gained it's independence from British rule, and here we are two hundred and twenty-eight years later. We are not only an independent country, but the number one nation in the entire world. However, we did not become the best in the world by staying with our old customs and traditions. In order to become who we are today we had to make changes. Throughout the years we have seen many changes; from the abolition of slavery, to women having the right to vote, to the civil rights movement making African Americans just as equal as everyone else. We change one aspect at a time and we become better as a whole. Back in high school I had a history/English teacher who thought...no, wait, preached the fact that that we were based on a "must have" concept. As we all learned in high school or middle school, the colonists broke away because they wanted the freedom to worship and live how they pleased. We had to have our way back then, and we founded everything on our wants, so even today we still have to have it our way. Just like Burger King! Having everything our way also means that when we do get what we want, we want more. We want bigger and better things. In the words of the c
