Thomas Boyles "Greasy Lake"(1985) was a type of story that. It features an array of out of control juvenile teens, and their wild ways. It displays the profile of what dangerous teens where like "when the winning way went out of style(Boyle 404)."
             This story is based on a song "Spirit In The Night", that was written by "Bruce Springsteen"(4). It's about a couple of wild teens that played in a band, and acted out their wild ways. Springsteen got the idea to write the song from his sister. A sister that lived in Lakewood, a town that Greasy Lake is out side of. "Greasy Lakes actual name is Lake Shenandoah which is on Route 88 on the black side of town(4)."
             The environment of the story was very dark and weary feeling. Boyle seemed to go over board with the characters bad ways. He makes you think that the story takes place in the late 50's or early 60's through the story. But in the first paragraph, when he is describing the characters it mentions, "sniffing glue and ether and what somebody claimed was cocaine(boyle 405)." It doesn't make since because cocaine didn't come out until the 70's. The story doesn't have much background on the three boys. It doesn't explain why they act the way they do. Is it because they grew up in a bad household, or are they the type that doesn't fit in with the normal crowd. Boyle could have also put in the story how they became acquainted with each other. He could have given a softer side to the characters. The story makes the boys look like beast with no feelings. Its kind of hard to believe that the characters could try and rape the girl, and none of them thinking twice about it.
