Compare/Contrast Bradford
John Smith and William Bradford are two explorers that came to America to write about the New World. There are many comparisons and contrasts between William Bradford and John Smith. Both Bradford and Smith were early American writers. Bradford and Smith's works of literature describe the pros and cons of the New World. The first similarity between William Bradford and John Smith was when they first settled in America they wanted to teach the Indians their ways of life. This included religion and the way that they live in a more "civilized society". Bradford and Smith taught the Indians this because they believed that the Indians did not have common knowledge on certain things for a better way of life.
Bradford, on the other hand, was stating his honest opinion when he wrote about the new world. "My purpose is not to persuade children from their parents, men from their wives, nor servants from their masters, only such as with free consent may be spared. Bradford made a lot of his money with the help of the Indians whereas Smith did not need as much of the Indian's help to succeed. However, Bradford wrote about the hardships and struggles of life in the New World. Bradford wrote that as time continued to pass more and more people died due to lack of food and other necessities for everyday life. John Smith wrote to persuade people to come to the new world to start a new life. Although the writing between Bradford and Smith differ in style, there are still similarities in their writing. There are many pros and cons of the early American life. Smith only described the good because he loved the new world so much and wanted others to love it too. Both men shared their opinions of the new world the way in which they viewed it. The Indians helped to teach them certain skills, such as farming, to acquire money. " Smith's style of writing was more of a biased essay stating only the good facts to try to persuade people to come to the new world. Another similarity between Bradford and Smith was that they both were able to make money in the new world. " This quote basically say's that the only person he wants to persuade to come to America is the ones with free will, that will have a trade or a background to earn them money in the New World.
