Rape

             There is no certain way to prevent rape. Rape is a crime of violence and aggression that often leaves the victims life shattered. When people hear the words domestic violence, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse they often tend to lose sight of what the word really means. Every three minutes a woman in the United States is being raped and only one in ten rapes are reported. In criminal law, rape is an act of sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent or with a minor. A woman of less than a certain age in the United States which is 13-18 years (varies in different states) is considered incapable of giving actual consent, that is considered statutory rape.
             Today there is more than just on kind of rape. There's acquaintance rape and date rape. Acquaintance rape is rape in which the rapist and the person being raped know each other. Date rape on the other hand is rape that occurs in a dating situation (Meek Heit 120). Date rape is most likely to be an impulsive act instead of the usual planned act. Alcohol and drug use plays a big role in date rape,
             It increases the risk of it. A male who is a rapist often feels the need to control his female partner and is more likely to act on them after using alcohol or other drugs. Most rapes are reported after alcohol or when other drug use has occurred. Especially when the date rape drug is used. The drug is called flunitrazepam and it's an odorless, colorless sedative drug. Some slang names for this particular drug is: "roofies," "rope," "the forget pill," and "roach." Similar to alcohol it makes people fearless and aggressive. The most common name is "The date-rape drug." Some side effects are blackouts and complete or partial memory loss. It can also cause breathing irregularities and can be fatal (Meek Heit 120).
