Stepmom Review

For the options assignment, I watched the movie Stepmom. This movie is about divorced couple and their struggles. Together they have two children, Benjamin and Anna, who live with their mother, Jackie. The children have weekend visits with their father, Luke, who recently had his girlfriend, Isabelle, to move in with him. Jackie does not like Isabelle because she thinks Isabelle is a not a good role model for her children. The children pick up on the fact that their mother does not like Isabelle, so they are very rude to her every time they stay at their father's house. In the movie, Anna said to her mother, "If you want me to hate her (Isabelle) I will." This shows that she picks up on the negativity between her mother and Isabelle. The movie takes a dramatic turn when Jackie is diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She is forced to seek treatment immediately in California. After her various treatment options fail to remove the cancer, she is faced with the reality that she is going to die. Around the same time, Luke also asks Isabelle to marry him. The children are now faced with losing their mother and learning to like their soon to be step-mom. This overall theme of theme of this movie is how to deal with someone who is

He is very curious in the movie as to what is going on with his mom and what kinds of medicines she was taking. Ben is still in grade school, and does not quite understand why his mom is going die. She remembers when their aunt died of cancer, and is very scared about the future. Anna's reaction was quite a bit more intense. It affects everyone in this situation, including Jackie. Dealing with the unknown is a major issue that she faces every day. Even though they are divorced, she realizes that there will always be a bond between them. Jackie had a much easier time including Ben in the things she was going through, than she did Anna. Other people in the movie went through stages that compliment class notes. He finds this to be a difficult task, but somehow he must go on, at least for the sake of his children. When confronted about the news that her mother is dying, she said, "it's Thursday, where is Isabelle? We're supposed to be with Isabelle" then she turned to Ben and said, "Isabelle is our new mother now". The biggest differences in reactions are in Ben and Anna. Although her initial reaction was blown out of proportion, she ultimately had the harder time adjusting to her mothers' death. Even though they are divorced, he still has some feelings and thoughts about her. Having Anna and Ben for occasional visits is not the same as raising them.
