             Further down on the same page Estragon says: "On the other hand it might be better to strike the iron before it freezes". This implies that not only a lot of time has passed, the iron is no longer hot – it is has almost frozen, but time may be running out on Vladimir and Estragon – their 'time' or life may be only short time until it 'ends'.
