During the recent decade our society underwent many different changes. It became more advanced in different types of fields. The cellular telephone is now engrained in our everyday lives as useful and convenient tool. However, society debates whether the use of the cellphones should be controlled and should cellphone silencers be used. The answer is no. Cellphone silencers should not be legalized by the federal government because their use will cause denial of rights of freedom, unnecessary expenses as well as unanswered emergency calls. But what is a cellular phone silencer? It is a device, also known as "Radio jamming device", that sends out an electronic signal to disable a phone from ringing. The jammers are illegal in Canada, except for use by law-enforcement and public-safety officials, but might be popular for operators of restaurants, theatres and other large public-gathering places. However, widespread marketing of this technology will be dangerous and an infringement on citizen's needs and abilities to communicate in sometimes very critical situations. The blocking of the signals is the restriction on the personal freedoms, the unnecessary expenses and the safety hazards for those who rely on these types of services. The government should not invest money in the development of cellphone silencers because with the growth of our technology in a few years we will have companies that will find the ways to send signals through jamming devices. However, it should not be used as a tool to control and limit the freedom and right of Canadians. It is a matter of civility and etiquette, sometimes that is too often forgotten. First of all, the money spent to block cellphones will be more wisely used to solve important social issues. On the other hand, it seems that this approach is being driven by companies wishing to market yet another electronic gadget for high profits and our money is their targets. New innovations are required to improve our everyday lives in order for the world to run smoother and decrease our worries and problems. Their use has become such an important part of urban citizens' daily lives that it will have a huge impact on the society if cellphones are banned from public places where they are not threatening the well being of others. The solution is to educate the public to be aware of their surroundings and courteous to others. As the result of legalizing the silencers everyone will suffer. After all, the government and makers of cellphone silencers may be held legally responsible if people die because of the jamming.
