Katherine mansfield style of writing

In the story the fly there are only two characters involved and they would be the boss and Mr.Woodifield.. Mr. Woodifield is an elderly man who is not in perfect health and admires the heath of his boss. Although Mr. Woodifield does not play a key role in the story he is almost like a prop to open up a hidden part of the boss' psyche. He then quickly fades out of the story as it reaches its surprising conclusion. The boss on the other hand is the main character in this selection and his relationships form the main part of the story. He is also an elderly man who is in good shape for his age and is admired for it . He had a son who died in the war in which he was going to give his business to. The story seems to take place in a office building where the boss appears to be in his office .Mr. Woodifield comes in to inform him that someone saw his son's grave and that is was neat and well maintained. The theme of the story appears to be that it is not right to do things for other people that are motivated only by self-interest. The boss character is generally less and less sympathetic as the story goes on, so that by the end he appears quite cruel. Cruel enough to torture a poor innocent fly. The plot of this story would be that a

The tone of this story would be one of anguish and unjust reasoning for the death of the boss' son. The mood then turns to one of disbelief and amazement that someone would think such things of her and her prize possession, the coat. When Miss Brill goes to the park she is in her own fantasy world that everyone around her is in a play and that she is happy and not lonely. The story begins with the arrival of a doll's house to the Burnell children. The older children like the more elegant parts of the house like the gold frames and red carpet but the youngest Kezia enjoys the simple and plain lamp. She enjoys just sitting there taking in the atmosphere around and listening when she can, acting as if she wasn't. Another time where she uses good imagery would be when she is describing the son's face in the picture and how the look on his face was stern and cold. After this point it arises the conflict of people not liking her fur stole and she takes it personally and it hurts her feelings. The theme in this story dealt with social classes and inequality amongst people. It would be like in the 1960's or even earlier. It is like this all throughout the story until the very end when the young couple that are much in love comes and sits next to her. Miss Brill demonstrates how symbolism is used to portray a character's feelings, and the reactions of that character to a series of events expressed through an omniscient third person narrator that delves into Miss Brill's innermost thoughts. In all three of the stories she uses a third person point of view in which she does a very good job of. This makes her face reality and that it is no role play that is happening.
