Modern Day Courtship vs King Arthurs, Courtly Love

The word ?Romance? means a love affair. However, we all know that there is far more to it than that. Although everyone has different views of it, we can all agree that romance has been around as long as we have. Going back to the days of King Arthur courtly love reigned. This was a time known for its love affairs and built a standard for good relationships from that point on. Some people say that they would never enjoy a relationship living like they did in those times. Others say that there were so many more positive sides to their lifestyle and that we should bring some of that back. There is, and will always be, a large controversy over personal relationship standards. However, with so many differences and similarities in King Arthur courtly love and modern day courtship, it is very hard to tell which would be healthier for our future.

Every ten years you can see a change in society. A famous saying states ?thou shalt not chose for thy love anyone whom a natural sense of shame forbids thee to marry?. In today?s world, people are extremely comfortable with public affection. Thou shalt not knowingly strive to break up a correct love affair that someone else is engaged in. This completely still applies today if not more so than it did before. In the old days he who is not jealous cannot love. You can be jealous of a someone else because of their relationship or be jealous of whomever a certain someone ends up with. With something as personal as a romance relationship, people do not like to be told what is right and wrong. Some follow this very closely and others like doing their own thing. On top of these difference we see many similarities as well. Thou shalt be in all things polite and courteous. They will know within 5 minutes of meeting you, if and with who you are in a relationship with.

These two times periods in love history are similar in many ways as well. Jealousy is what drives people to pursue relationships.
