Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born like any ordinary baby, without any abnormalities. She was born June of 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. It was a sleepy and very southern town. The beginning of her life was very normal. She came, she saw and she conquered. At the age of 19 months she came down with a fever as a result of an acute congestion of the stomach and brain. After that, no part of life would ever be simple again. The doctor said she might not recover, although she did. Except as that sickness went away in came another, she became blind. Her mother was giving her baby, Helen, a bath one day, when she happened to pass a hand in front of Helen's eyes and there was no response. Her eyelids did not move, thus that is when her mother found out her baby girl was blind. The last word Helen remembered was "water." Later on they found out she was deaf because the doorbell rang and after many times that it rang she did not respond. Helen adjusted to her new life by touching, smelling and tasting. She learned to do sign language and had several friends. Helen's pare

She was famous and loved by everyone. When it was time for Helen to go to college, she applied to Radcliff. Helen really accomplished a lot and she will always be remembered for that. She was strict but was a very good teacher. Helen learned to talk with her fingers by placing her fingers on Annie's hand and making finger movements. At certain times, her workload was extremely demanding because in addition to her schoolwork, many people wanted her to write her autobiography. There were also many more things that I found out about her life. They felt that it was Annie that was doing everything in Helen's life, not Helen. Even though I knew that she was blind and deaf there were a lot of things in the book that I never knew before and it made the book even more interesting. Annie died in June of 1968 from heart disease. Helen Keller is a real role model for me. Helen even learned to write regular fine print. Except for that, most of the time she loved her school.
