Christianaity vs Islam
Our world today has been hit with a religious bomb. There are thousands of religions and beliefs being taught and disputed throughout the world. In America alone, there are hundreds that are constantly being debated. Since September 11th, 2001, two religions have headlined in the news and occupied the world's mind, Christianity and Islam. People believing in these two religions are confused and or upset with each other. They don't fully understand what or how the other believes. For a deeper understanding and appreciation of these faiths we need to try to find an 'inside' view of these faiths (Cooper, 60). Therefore we must look at both the differences and the similarities between them. There are many differences that set the two apart a great deal like who Jesus Christ was and is and the differences between the Bible and the Qur'an. On the other side of the issue there are similarities that make them very close together like the belief in one true God and that He is merciful and all powerful. Before we begin we need to know what each religions means. "Islam is an Arabic word and connotes submission, surrender and obedience" (61). So He had Adam tell the angels the names of all and too the surprise of the angels he recited them perfectly. Christians believe that Adam named all the animals while trying to find a mate for life. They also believe that Adam and Eve were in a Heavenly Garden not on Earth and that when they sinned that they along with Iblis fell to Earth to live. Muslims believe that He is the sole controller of all His creation and that he is active as the creator, the life giver, and the life remover. They both believe that He made man and named him Adam and Eve or Hauwa. Christians say that the Bible is "God Breath" and that everything in the Bible is truthful. As we are watching the news or reading the newspaper or listening to any sort of media we need to think about the other person and not judge them. They believe that He is the only one, and that there is no son, father, brother, wife, sister or daughters. If we ask the questions: "When did these religions arise, Where did they arise, Who founded them, and How did they spread and develop" (60); we would get different responses depending on who we asked. Their books are The Suhuf (scrolls) which 10 holy scriptures written by Ibrahim (Abraham), The Taurat (Torah) written by Musa (Moses), The Zabur (Psalms) written by Daud (David), The Injil (Gospels) written by Isa (Jesus), and The Qur'an (Koran) which is the final message to mankind written by Muhammad (25-6). They don't believe that Jesus was crucified, but that God made it appear that way by allowing someone else look like Him and take his place. They recognize His miracles as signs from God but don't mention them in great detail. Christians believe that "God is not the invention of the human mind" or "by any way part of nature"(83). They also believe that Jesus Christ was born unto Mary of Nazareth by way of miracle and the grace of God.
