Role of women in china

Throughout most of history women have always aimed for a recognized place in society. Women generally have had fewer legal rights and career opportunities than men. Wifehood and motherhood were regarded as women's most significant professions. Looking at the world today, many accomplishments in women's rights have occurred since the last century. In the 20th century, women in most nations have won the right to vote and have increased their educational and job opportunities. Most importantly, women have gained the accomplishment of a reevaluation of their role in society. During the early 19th century, freedom was trying to be reached across the world. This has come about because of divorce being permitted, men find ways for their wives to divorce them so they can pursue their affairs with other women. As mentioned before, women are also creatures created by God and deserve the be respected and valued as God had planned it. In addition to equal job opportunities and equal pay, practices such as foot binding and arranged marriages were outlawed. By this time many Chinese women realized that in order to live prosperous lives they must receive an education. " Not only could women not think for themselves and make their own decisions, they were expected to follow what was known as the "three obediences" which stated: "first, obey their fathers; after marriage, their husbands; during widowhood, their sons" (http://www. To make matters worse, women had to give birth to at least one son or risk the family's "honor. They were expected to stay secluded inside the home and never go out; yet, women worked more and at jobs that would commonly be reserved for men.
