Sexual harassment has touched the lives of many children across the nation. For example, a close friend of mine was molested at the age of three by one of the employees at the day care center he stayed at every day while his single mother went to work. Furthermore, another dear friend of mine was touched and spoken to in a sexual manner on numerous occasions by his middle-aged boss at a local fast food restaurant. These children and teenagers are only a spec in the enormous number of kids that get sexually molested and abused every day. Yet, our government hides its eyes. The first step in educating the public about child sexual abuse is defining the lines between fact and myth. (What A Parent) Moreover, it is often believed that it is not important for children to have information on sexual assault. They should also realize that most children never outgrow the traumatic effects of molestation. These offenders may be strangers, but they are more likely a person in a position of trust, such as friends of the family, teachers, neighbors, acquaintances or religious advisors.
Many activities and programs have been used in teaching children how to prevent sexual harassment from happening and what to do if it does.
