A Common Bound

Oedipus is the ruler of a city called Thebes in Sophocleas’ Oedipus the King. In this story Cadmus was the founder of the city by fighting and defeating the dragon. After the dragons death cadmus decided to take the dragons teeth and sow them into the ground. By doing this Cadmus had built a heroic name for himself and for the people that were the first residents with him. Oedipus looked at this as a challenge for him and his people that he rules over to also make the heroic code just as Cadmus. Oedipus decided that his journey would be the Sphinx. The difference between this Cadmus and Oedipus is that of the Gods. Oedipus experiences throughout his journey no cooperation from the Gods or Goddesses. We see her fame showen when at first she decides to talk to the soldiers about peace and not fighting each other. She has reached what the Homeric code calls fame by the respect she is shown from every one. We are able to see this when Agamemnon agrees to return the “war prize”, but, as compensation, he says that he will take the women who was awarded to Achilles, his best warrior. Gaining fame can be like a doubled edged sword. Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae and Argos, he thought that he could step up and lead the troops to rescue Helen. This central goal is to look and think for what is best in the city-state. Each woman from both sides to come together and locked themselves up in the Acropolis for five days. Under the Heroic code all great men must be just and fare in the role of War. In the Homeric Code, one of the biggest attributes is fame. By lose focuses because of fame Agomemnon lost his best soldier insight of gaining a pretty woman. Lysistrata gains her fame at the end of the play by making the women stick out the strike and letting the men give in before the women do. This makes Achilles furious, with this he refuses to fight for the Achaians. Here we see Oedipus’s arrogance throughout the play causes him the trouble with the all the gods. The leader of the women became Lysistrata, she find that it is extremely hard to keep all cooperation from the women.
