Close Presidential Election.
An Extraordinary Moment in Our Democracy Since the beginning of politics, never has our country seen such a close presidential election. It has been almost two weeks since the election and there is still so much controversy going on in Florida, the state that will more than likely determine the winner of this election. There is a lot of spin in this election between the candidates, their campaign advisors, the media, and the political analysts. Each candidate, along with their campaign advisors, have a completely different outlook as to what is going on in this election. New information and legal battles keep surfacing everyday from both sides. It has been hard to keep up with the information and then decide which side is telling the truth and/or taking the legal battles too far. So, what is the spin given by the involving parties? When is this election going to end and what will the impact be on future elections? While no one will be able to accurately predict the ending, America does hope it ends soon. The other two questions, although almost impossible to answer simply, can be answered by looking what has been going on in the past week and a half and analyzing what spin the media has put on this election.
Because of their mistakes, there has been a lot of discussion and analysis as to what happened and what the impact will be on America as far as how much they will trust the media to get the facts straight. (Wash Post) When looking on each candidate's website on November 14, it was noticed that only George Bush's site offered a proposal to end the impasse in Florida. Many of them said they might have mistakenly voted for the Reform Party Candidate, Pat Buchanan, instead of Al Gore because of the way the county's punch-card style ballot was laid out. The media and its viewers are patiently waiting for the controversy and ballot counting in Florida to end so that America may find out who will be the next president-elect. The Republicans just think the voters in Palm Beach were "stupid" if they could not ask for help or ask for another ballot because they made a mistake. Nevertheless, whoever wins this term for presidency should be automatically considered legitimate and respected with honor. t immediately after Florida announced it had to conduct a recount because the votes between the two candidates were too close to call, America knew that the election for the forty-third president would make history. " (Newsweek) The Bush team finally realized the Gore team was going to ask for manual recounts when they heard "fighting" words from Warren Daley. They disagree on just about everything. Questions of "legitimacy" for either presidential candidate have risen over the course of this battle. "(george)While the proposal has not been updated in a few days, it illustrates more evidently that Bush is looking to end the in-decision in 2000. The Republicans feel they have outstanding evidence to prove otherwise. Bush, to switch their votes to Al Gore when they meet in December. They try to convey that their political strategies and styles are more fair and should be accepted by the public.
