There are many differences between the generation that grew up in the 1970’s and the generation that is growing up now because of influences from music, clothing and television. Many of these changes are just fads but some of them are here to stay. Some of these changes have been beneficial while others have not been so beneficial.

Music has changed a great deal. Back in the seventies people used to listen to disco, such as Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, and ABBA. Synchronized dancing was big. Many studios popped up that taught people how to disco dance. A movie that captured the feeling of the music of the 1970’s was “Saturday Night Fever”. They were very tight fitting and made out of polyester. Shows that are aimed at young audiences often deal with sexual situations. Compared to the type of casual shoes of the past they probably resemble boats. MTV target is just teens, unlike the seventies were there was no channel that was just for teens. The was never any fear that a child could learn something bad from watching these shows. Now skate shoes, such brands as DVS and Globe are what everyone buys. Angel Flight pants were a big thing for the guys to wear. All in all the generation of the past is very different from the current generation in what they are exposed to. Boys wear baggy jeans with their boxers hanging out and shirts that are too big. Television has had the most influence and also has changed the most. Music of the 70’s generation is similar to music now in that many songs focus on boyfriend-girlfriend relationships.

It is obvious that many things have changed throughout the years. “Gillian’s Island” and “The Brady Bunch” were widely watch in the 70’s. MTV is another major turning point for television for this generation.
