The 411 on Shakespeare

William Shakespeare is the most influential writer in English Literature. His thirty-seven plays have been studied from the day it was written to now. Although the exact date of Shakespeare's birth cannot be confirmed, scholars say he was born on April 23rd, 1564. Shakespeare was born in a small English town named Stratford-upon-Avon, in Warwickshire. He was born to Mary Arden and John Shakespeare, who had eight children altogether. His real name is Gulielmus Filius Johannes Shakespeare. He supposedly attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford where he learned Latin, among other things. Not a lot is

From 1590 to 1612, Shakespeare wrote comedies such as "Twelfth Night" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream", tragedies such as "Romeo and Juliet" and "Antony and Cleopatra", and historicals such as "Macbeth" and "Hamlet". The play Henry V had immortalized the Globe Theatre. When Shakespeare married Hathaway, he was 18 years old while she was 26 and three moths pregnant. Around 1590, he left his family behind and travelled to London to work as an actor and playwright. His cause of death is not known to us. He died on April 23, 1616, at the age of 52. William Shakespeare was one of the greatest writers from the beginning of time. During the first six years of his playwritings, he showed the world the dark side of life in Macbeth, King Lear, Othello, and Hamlet. Hamnet died at the age of eleven; his cause of death is not known. Different colored flags would represent what play would be shown. The publication of his two narrative poems, Venus and Adonis (1593) and The Rape of Lucrece (1594) and of his Sonnets (1609) established his reputation as a wonderful Renaissance poet. They had three children together: Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith. The years 1585 to 1592, are called the "lost years" because it's a period of time where we know nothing about his life.
