Ann and Adele left Wisconsin and headed for California in a stolen car. Adele had taken Ted’s Mobil Credit Card, so they could pay for hotels rooms and food. Adele rear-ended someone at a red light. They stayed at The Luau Hotel, for about a week while their car was getting fixed. Adele had a realtor show her a really expensive house; she acted like she was going to buy it even though they didn’t have any money. Adele dropped Ann off on the side of the road. Ann walked to an Arco station to make a phone call. Then Adele came back and picked her up.

They arrived in California. They stopped at a restaurant to clean up before going to the hotel. Adele told Ann she could give herself a new name while they were in California. Ann chose Heather. They washed the car and headed to the Bel Air Hotel. After they checked in they went to the hotels restaurant. Adele got mad at Ann for ordering expensive food when they couldn’t afford it.

Ida had 7 sisters, Hattie, Clara, Ruth, Irene, Alma, Ellie, and Jen. The school was in the ghetto and has barbed wire around it. Adele started to cry so Ann drove home. Adele wanted to dump Lonnie but she was afraid, she thought he was part of the Mafia. They saw Penny and her father leaving on a wagon, and that was the last time they ever saw them. He said that Adele did have surgery but it was cosmetic. She said it was a good thing for her. She told Ann she got a letter from Lolly. Adele went to California without Ann, but she came back. She said her and Adele never became friends because of the age difference. She said that her family tried to mold her and Ann into something they wanted them to be. By the time Lillian had Adele, Carol was 11. She went to Chicago alone to have the surgery.
