King Lear
From the time when William Shakespear first produced "King Lear" till now it has not lost any of its original fortitude. Although the settings and characters are of time period long ago, the basic human emotions can still be found with in our hearts today. The play "King Lear" there are many strong human emotions present however of these the strongest are pity, guilt, and Pity is the grief one feels for anothers misfortune. We see examples of this in the play such as when Edgar sees the King in his deteriorated state and says to himself "My tears began to take his part so much,...." (3.6.59). We also se an example of pity in act four scene one when Gloucester is left on his own to smell his way to Dover an old man comes to his aid. In society today we also feel pity for loved ones and strangers alike such as the innocent civilians of afganhistan who are being slaughtered for the crimes of the Taliban. Although this is happening today and Gloucesters eyes were
88-89) Edmund shows his guilt in the end when he is on his death bead he tries to reconcile some of the wrongs which he has committed by trying to save Cordelias life "I pant for life; some good I mean to do/ Despite of mine own nature. Regan tells Gloucester that Edmund was the one who "made the overture of thy treason to us" (3. Guilt is a horrible feeling but it is a feeling wich can only be brought upon one's self unlike betrayal wich supersedes the feeling of guilt and some times coannot be avoided. Lear clearly displays his feelings of betrayal in the storm when he says "I tax you not, you elements, with unkindness;/ I never gave you kingdom, called you children,/ You owe me no subscription:" (3. This reigns true because as long as man has existed their have always been human emotions. d years ago, we still feel the same sorrow for him who does not exist as we feel for those people who are very real today. King lear is a classic example of Human emotion throughtout history and although the conditoins of the play are not likley to happen today the emotions are. If these sorts of people could feel a tenth of the guilt wich these characters felt when having committed similar offences then they would be reluctant to repeat the mistakes of these characters.
