Problems About Exam Schedule
As all of us know, METU gives more opportunities to students than the other universities in Turkey, so we can say METU is better than the others. However, being better does not mean everything is good there. We know that if there is people somewhere, there always exist problems and you cannot easily create a system, which is perfect and makes everyone happy. At this point we will emphasize the problems about exam schedule and try to give solutions and suggestions for these problems. How students may be affected psychologically by the narrowly arranged exam schedule will be mentioned in this paragraph. In our opinion, exam schedule is not logically arranged. In current arrangement, students can concentrate on neither their exams nor their courses. The dates of exams are close to each other, so that; students cannot have the chance to study for their exams enough. And this lack of time for studying causes stress on students. At this point it will be good to define stress. Stress is the automatically response that our bodies give to internal or external impacts. Moving to another city, loss of beloved person, various physical or psychological disorders are the examples of these impacts. Having stress in long period time m
For example, % 87 of students does not want to take exams after 17:30 and % 78 of the dislike having exam at weekends. Firstly, we mostly said that when the exams are at the weekend, there come out some problems. What if that instructor would give all the courses in a semester? We are so lucky that these kinds of instructors are not the majority. Therefore, we will have prevented the exams from being the same time. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to take more than one exams in a day and we have to take exams very frequently, so that our concentration decreases. The exams of these courses can be done at the weekend, because everyone does not take these courses at the same time. We just want to correct some mistakes about it. Then we asked another question that what is the influence of exam schedule on your thought about the lessons, which you get low results from first or second mid-term. We suggest that the exams of 1st, 3rd and 5th years' courses can be done on Saturday and the exams of courses of 2nd and 4th years can be done on Sunday. In the other universities of turkey this is done so. Our final exams are taken just after finishing of the courses and we cannot have time to repeat the units, so our grades and successes decrease. When the students take courses irregularly, they encounter the problem such that two exams come to the same time. Secondly, low exam grades cause students to have a low graduatete cumulative and directly influence our probability to find a good job. For example, in Ankara University, courses are finishing on 26th of December and finals start on 15th of January. For example, an instructor makes 6 midterms in one semester only one course.
