FDR got rid of the gold standard and put them in the United States Treasury. He realized when he needed the help of other people himself just to get around on a daily basis that these people would need help getting of their feet. He passed the Unemployment Relief Act and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Roosevelt developed such a strong appeal for the forgotten man because they are the people that needed it the most.
