What is Human Freedom?
Topic: What is human freedom? Many people, both pro-gun and pro-gun control talk about freedom all the time but nobody has actually taught about it critically and apply it in the debate of gun control policies in our society. Pro-gun people believe that the implementation of gun-control policies is an infringement on human freedom. Human freedom? 'Very interesting'. We leave in a democratic society and when we think of democracy, what comes in mind is government of the people. Therefore decisions are made based on a majority vote or opinion. Some issues need not be debated or contested in my opinion. Strict gun-control policies are one of those. We should look around us and see what 250 millions guns in American streets has done to us, then take action. Any society that does not implement gun-control policies has opened a wide door for societal violence and random murders. When the citizens of nation no longer feel very free to move around at certain time of the day because of the fear of being gunned down by some lunatic with a gun, that is what I call infringement of human freedom. What are the benefits of allowing peo
With 250 million guns in the USA, it has not worked rather we have lost our highly protected freedom in pursuit of freedom. My father sleeping at 3am in the morning heard a sound like a broken glass. According to the same research, firearms injured another 70,000 victims, some who left permanently disabled. If a criminal breaks into a house of a doll collector, steals some dolls, goes to the street, and hits a person in the head with a doll. "This is probably true but it lacks the big picture analysis. We must always ask ourselves, why is it that other societies like Great Britain, Australia, Japan etc who have stricter gun-control policies have far less gun crimes. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than with other weapons or unarmed. This is a typical example of what happens when people connect firearms. Collecting a weapon of mass destruction does not help the society in any way. We did not know what happened next but one thing I know for sure today, is that my children will never see their grandpa. It is a clear indication that the idea of "more guns = more protection" makes no sense. Approximately, 60% of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (12,000 people) were killed by firearms. In 1985, the cost of shooting either by others, through self-inflicted wounds or in accidents was estimated to be more than $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long term disability and premature deaths. We as a society need to sit back and re-think the benefits of owning guns as against the costs.
