A rose for Emily

This short story "A rose for Emily" written by William Faulkner took place in Jefferson, a small town in the south of United States. The main character-- Miss Emily Grierson was the owner of a big, fancy house which stood in Jefferson. She used to live with her only family--her father. Since she was the apple of her father's eyes, his father thought no one was good enough to offer love to his precious daughter, only himself. Under such circumstances, Miss Emily grew up to the age that she should find her own Mr.Right, but she had not really find one to marry. After her father died, she became much closer to the average people and much more humanized.
According to what the narrator told us readers,"She was sick for a long time. When we saw her again, her hair was cut short, making her look like a girl...", when they saw her again, her appearence changed a lot. It seemed that it has been a long time since they saw her last time. Her father has just died, but no one went to console her for his father's death during this period. They ignored Miss Emily and even were not willing to care about her or make friends with her.
When the man who worked for the contruction company appeared, thing went different from then on. His name was Homer Barron, a guy attracted Miss Emily's eyes very much. At first, people in the town thought they were just hanging out, "Of course a Grierson would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer.", but afterwards, they found something went a little far from what they thought,"We learned that Miss Emily had been to the jeweler's and ordered a man's toilet set in silver, with the letters H. B. on each piece." They became to realize that Miss Emily and Homer Barron, a Yankee, were going to marry. But they found out that he disappeared and was gone. After several years, people in this town didn't have too much contact with Miss Emily. They just saw the Negro servant going in and out of the house
