A rose for Emily

This short story "A rose for Emily" written by William Faulkner took place in Jefferson, a small town in the south of United States. The main character-- Miss Emily Grierson was the owner of a big, fancy house which stood in Jefferson. She used to live with her only family--her father. Since she was the apple of her father's eyes, his father thought no one was good enough to offer love to his precious daughter, only himself. Under such circumstances, Miss Emily grew up to the age that she should find her own Mr.Right, but she had not really find one to marry. After her father died, she became much closer to the average people and much more humanized.According to what the narrator told us readers,"She was sick for a long time. When we saw her again, her hair was cut short, making her look like a girl...", when they saw her again, her appearence changed a lot. It seemed that it has been a long time since they saw her last time. Her father has just died, but no one went to console her for his father's death during this period. They ignored Miss Emily and even were not willing to care about her or make friends with her. When the man who worked for the contruction company appeared, thing went different from then on. His name was

But they found out that he disappeared and was gone. They buried her under the ground and held a funeral for their Miss Emily. The way the narrator tells the story is very smart. At first, people in the town thought they were just hanging out, "Of course a Grierson would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer. On the other hand, her father offered all his love to Emily, which made her think that she deserved it. Homer Barron, a guy attracted Miss Emily's eyes very much. " They became to realize that Miss Emily and Homer Barron, a Yankee, were going to marry. So she regarded him as her all, which made her love become obsessive. The narrator always uses the third place "we" to narrate the whole story. After her father died, she needed to find someone to fill this vacancy. But she could ask the Negro man to buy. When I read that paragraph, I was wondering why she need poison. After her funeral, they went to her house to open a door of the room which no one had seen before. She said she was going to kill the rats.
