POV in the Gathering

How does point-of-view reveal his personality, values and attitudes?With Nathanial as narrator we read how he feels about certain situations and as teenagers we are able to empathise with him. Because of the way Nathanial thinks and speaks he shows his personality, and how he feels about different situations. He values his integrity very highly as he tries to be trusting, honest and reliable. One of these is the burning of the Tod. As a reader we read about the way he describes and feels about the situation. Nathanial proves very effective as narrator as we as teenagers can successfully relate to what he talking about. This creates an atmosphere of hate towards budda who is responsible for the death of the Tod. This is shown in the way that he overcomes problems set by the Kraken and also how he discovers the key to overcoming the dark. Nathanial's values his own integrity, his pet dog and the fact that good can and will always triumph over evil. ad this we relate this to our own lives and we think of teachers who also act like this. We are also able to sympathise with Nathanial in painful situations. This helps us to really understand how Nathanial feels, as if he is talking to us. He also believes in the fact that good will always triumph over evil. We are shown that he values the Tod very highly because he is constantly talking and thinking about him and also takes him for a walk on most days. He feels bad when he leaves the Tod out in the cold weather, which shows his constant concern for the dog. " He arched and coiled, yelping in pain and fright"This is an example of one sentence that makes the reader feel sorry for Nathanial as it describes the image of his burned dog.
