Mimi Parent's A Stroll in the Sun

For this second assignment, I chose a painting by Mimi Parent, titled A Stroll in the Sun. It's a very bright and colorful canvas that automatically attracts your attention upon entering the exhibition room. In the foreground, we see a young girl standing to the right of a field of various flowers. She also holds in her hands a bouquet of different flowers. Behind her, an inclined tree with "swirly" branches is noticeable. Beside the tree, there is a rectangular house with a roof colored with a bold shade of red. To the right of the house, there are fields of different plantations and to the left, you can distinguish piles of haystacks. A forest of blue trees is located behind the house and above that, there's a chain of blue colored mountains. A red vortex shaped sun catches your eye as it sits at the top right corner of the canvas. The most noticeable colors used Parent vary along rich and bright tones. The artist used a lot of scarlet red (for the rooftop, the sun, and fields) and also different shades of pink (in the field of flowers). Blue is also an important color, but since it is only present in the background, you tend to notice it less. The canvas holds a lot of textures due to Parent's short brush strokes.

Carr's landscape blurry and holds few details; she has a style where she is not trying to tell a story. Parent's painting, like Carr's, also has few details; you cannot clearly see what is drawn is illustrated in the background. Both artists also resemble each other based on that aspect. The only major difference between the two landscapes is the feeling you get by looking at them. Even though both artists painted trees that a...
