Betrayal

The Roman Empire was once the super power of the earth. The king or emperor of Rome basically held all the power in the world in the palm of his hands. Many people would do anything to have this absolute power and prestige. In fact many people were betrayed and murdered for this power. In both the film Gladiator and the play Julius Caesar, betrayal is shown at its worst. It is a horrible act to stab someone who trusts you in the back. Betrayal is shown at its worst when best friends turn on each other. In the film Gladiator, Commodus, the son of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius betrays his own father. On his deathbed, Commodus' father tells his son that he will not become the Emperor of Rome when he dies. Devastated by this news, Commodus becomes obsessed with power and greatness so he quickly murde

In the end all of the people doing the betraying died. Brutus and the other conspirators murder Caesar only because he was to become Ruler of Rome. Commodus is hugging his crying father, and then he starts to squeeze him to death without warning, smothering him until he dies. He wanted to rule Rome and he was already the son of the Emperor. Many others involved in the murder of Caesar were once "friends" of Caesar. The killings in both examples are motivated by greedy reasons like power and riches. Cassius and Brutus wanted Caesar dead because the crown of Rome was offered to him. The conspirators surround Caesar and start talking to him. They pretend to have questions for Caesar to answer and Caesar thinks this is a completely normal scene. Betrayal occurs in the cruelest way possible in the play Julius Caesar and in the movie Gladiator. Caesar has no idea that he is about to be stabbed 33 times by those he loves most. In both pieces the person betrayed and killed was the Roman emperor or the future Roman Emperor. Brutus was a judge and Cassius also had a well paying job but they still wanted more power and money. rs before anyone can find out about his decision.
