The Handmaid's Tale
People live their lives to satisfy themselves, in The Stranger, by Albert Camus. The Stranger was an excellent book to read. Shawn Glinis, Andy Farley, Aaron Anderson all agree that The Stranger was a wonderful book. It told us that you ought to live your life that best suites you.A man lives his life desensitized to the world surrounding him, and the way that he chooses, and as a result he is happy. This book is about a man named Meursault. He seems to be very desensitized to other then the world around him. It seems he has no heart or feelings. The book starts with him receiving a fax about his mother's death, and he seems to not care or feel any sympathy, even at the funeral "...he returns home, he goes to the beach because he loves to swim (p21)." At this point you know this character is different from most. At the beach he meets a woman from his work named Marie. They become good friends and she asks him to marry him. He agrees to get married, but says he does not love her. Throughout the first part of the book, Meursault always notices the Arab's and he doesn't like them. At the end of Part 1, Meursault, Marie, and some friends are at the beach and the run into some Arabs. At first they don't fight, but they
loved the main theme", which is the absurdity of life. " Yet, she "believes the real reason why she enjoyed this book was because of the tragic fate that illuminated human culture through the main character. He doesn't think he just acts on what ever comes to his mind. Shawn Glinis thought that The Stranger, by Albert Camus, was a wonderful book. After they swim together Mersault asks Marie out for a movie in the evening. If you read the words and actually understand them, you will find irony, just as one would find irony in fall. It is clear Meursault has done nothing significant in his life, and he states this several times in the book that he never received much attention before his trial. Meursault's life is a strong example of living a life desirable to one's self. " She also, would recommend this book to anyone who likes to think deeply on the concepts of faith, fate, and life. This was helpful with interpreting the book and finding the theme. Part two takes place after Meursault's arrest. Meursault lives for the present and is totally emotionally detached. " Meursault is happy and only wishes that a crowd of haters would join him at his execution. Anderson went on and said, "This is why I loved the main theme, because it's about an ordinary man.
