Macbeth vs. Lady Macbeth

             Treason is an act that is frowned upon heavily. Even conspiring to kill the king could get a person killed. To actually go forward with this act, one must have a strong hatred for the king or benefit greatly from the results. The characters in Shakespeare's Macbeth have spoken many times of murder. While Macbeth is with Banquo, three witches come to them and forecast Macbeth to become king, and Banquo's sons to be his predecessors. Recently, King Duncan was killed, setting the stage for Macbeth to become king. Although Macbeth did the actual killing, Lady Macbeth was more responsible for the murder of Duncan because Lady Macbeth accused Macbeth of being afraid, Lady Macbeth told Macbeth how easily they would be cleared of the murder, and because she told Macbeth that his thoughts were wrong.
             Lady Macbeth and Macbeth were talking of Duncan's murder, and Lady Macbeth tried to talk Macbeth into going through with the plan by saying, "Art thou afeard/ To be the same in thine own act and valor/ As thou art in desire? (I vii ll. 43-45) In this quote, Lady Macbeth brazenly questions Macbeth's desire to become king. She asks if he is afraid and tells him he should act like a king because that is what he truly desires to be. When analyzed, this quote from Lady Macbeth proves how selfish he is, because she assumes that he would do anything to achieve what he wants as she would, but this is not true. Macbeth is really an honest man, but he eventually succumbs to Lady Macbeth's desires. Lady Macbeth had Macbeth by weakening his purity by questioning his desire, convincing him how they would not to be caught, and talking Macbeth out of his honest thoughts. Lady Macbeth says, "My hands are of your color, but I shame/To wear a heart so white... A little water clears us of this deed/ How easy it then!" (II ii ll. 82-83, 86-88), Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth how ashamed she is
