Brave New World

             John is an anti-hero. He doesn't portray the ideals of either society he belonged to. While he did stand up for himself and his ideals he was at the same time weak. He tried to separate himself from the Brave New World. This is an example of how strong and of how weak he was. He was or rather was attempting to be strong by separating himself and taking a stand against the ridiculous society of Brave New World by going against it. He was weak because he essentially fled the Brave New World because he couldn't handle the drastic difference in morals. He ends up killing himself in the end because he is unable to cope with the people's reaction to his separation from the society. A hero should be able to handle change and survive all kinds of stresses and difficulties and John was unable to. He also did not uphold the ideals of either the Reservation or of London. He had his own mix of ideas. This set him apart as well. A hero doesn't stand aside from the society he defends it. The hero lives and breathes the highest ideals of the society. With out the people backing the hero he is no longer a hero. The position of a hero is a very political one. The majority rules. Whoever has the vote is in. The popular prosper and the ones who lose get essays written about why they lost.
             John is affected generally the same when hi is in London then when he is in New Mexico. In both places he was singled out and the treatment in both places leads to a negative outcome. When John is in New Mexico he hurts himself and is constantly trying to be a part of the crowd. He is constantly being pushed away and is not allowed to participate in activities that the other boys can. When John is in London he is pushed into the spotlight. He doesn't want this and ends up placing himself into a solitary situation and continues to hurt himself there. John didn't like bein
