             The number of minority business professors in U.S. business schools has increased 85% in the past seven years and will have tripled by 2006, changing the face of business schools across the country, according to The PhD Project, a nonprofit coalition of corporations, foundations, and universities dedicated to increasing the number of minority business professors. The PhD Project is a partnership of universities, prominent corporations, academic and professional organizations, and foundations. Established in 1993, it aims to create more minority professors by urging successful African-American, Hispanic, and Native-American business executives to leave corporate jobs, earn PhD degrees, and become business school professors. More minority faculty role models and mentors mean more minority students will see business as a viable option. By getting more people of color into these highly influential teaching posts, The PhD Project adds new incentive for young minorities to study business and then go to work in corporate America, helping to diversify it.
             In 1994, there were only 294 minority business professors. Today there are 543 minority business school faculty in the U.S. and 406 minority PhD students, most of whom were identified by the project, which identifies, educates, and provides peer support for future minority business professors.
             The PhD Project's research shows that new African-American, Hispanic, and Native-American professors are making their impact in many ways, including:
             · Influencing minority students to pursue business careers or major in business
             · Providing career advice and mentoring
             · Serving as a role model for minority students
             · Conducting new research on diversity issues
