Gay Marriage

Same Sex Marriage… Wrong or Right????

The highly controversial subject of legalizing same sex marriage in each of the states is getting more and more attention in the legislature. With some states legalizing it and then abolishing it, this issue is proven to still be a complicated and controversial issue with no easy answer. While each state has it's own determination on whether or not same sex marriages should be recognized, many states do not view a same sex marriage as a legal union. So the question is should homosexual relationships be recognized by the law? Well who is to say but I am going to give valid reasons why it should be a recognized and also give the reasons why it should not be recognized. I plan to look at human rights, gay rights and state laws to prove my topic.

First you have to determine what marriage is? Marriage is state of being husband and wife. In a same sex marriage the couple would have to determine the roles of husband and wife. The Government views Husband and Wife as male and female. So it is hard to say or change a law that says male and female. But if two people decide to be married aren’t they just making the life long commitment to each other.

First I am going to look at the reas

. . .

ons why same sex marriage should be recognized and why it is wrong for the Government not to recognize the union of same sex marriage. They are not asking to change the belief of religions and are not asking for religious organizations to recognize same sex marriage. Government's refusal to recognize same-sex marriage is discrimination masked as morality. While some religions provide ceremonial services for same-sex couples, these unions do not receive legal recognition. Since the Government is not recognizing same sex marriages in most states this unfortunately leaves the monogamous relationships in the gay community without many benefits of marriage. Although I find that hard to believe for the majority of the gay community. " said Donna Payne, HRC's (Human Rights Campaign)

Supporters of same sex unions or marriages such as HRC are not asking to change the world. Through my research I found that it is mostly due to religious beliefs. Supporters of gay rights today argue that the same principles apply to laws prohibiting gays to marry.

· Civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions.

· Without the legal right to marry, same-sex couples do not have rights like family health coverage, medical and bereavement leave, child custody, tax benefits and pension plans. It would literally cause an uproar from citizens against same sex relationships and marriages. Although some things will never change. Christians believe the homosexuals are sinners because “God” does not support gay relationships. If recognizing same sex marriage is not asking religious beliefs to be changed they why not just recognize these marriages by law?

There are many reasons why the Government is hesitant to allow same sex marriages.
