Illegal Aliens

             The United States is a country compiled of a diverse population of peoples originating from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. The success of this country has stemmed from the unending knowledge, talents and sacrifice that this nation of immigrants has provided.
             Before the creation of the republic, immigration was necessary to expand the western territory, to create a transportation system, and to provide workers for industry. However, the resources of the United States are no longer over abundant. While legal immigration should be uninterrupted, illegal immigration while impossible to stop completely should be monitored more closely to prevent as much circumvention of the legal immigration system as possible.
             Illegal aliens should not be given amnesties. Besides being unfair to U.S. citizens, an amnesty for illegal aliens rewards people who knowingly violate U.S. laws and punishes those who abide by them. Millions of potential immigrants are waiting patiently for a chance to come to the United States legally. Should they not be given preference over illegal aliens? If congress approves the amnesty it will send a clear message to immigrants world wide, it is far easier and faster to become a U.S. citizen by immigrating illegally than it is to wait for legal approval.
             Illegal aliens harm the American workforce. Illegal aliens displace an estimated 659,000 Americans workers every year, at a cost of 3.5 billion a years. The cheap labor that illegal immigration provides depresses the wages and working conditions of the working poor.
             Under a device invented by the courts, many illegal aliens are allowed to receive welfare without fear of deportation. Other illegal aliens get welfare the same way they get jobs, document fraud. Why do we pay people who break the laws? Doesn't that send the wrong message?
