There have been many speculations about the cause of the tragic ending in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Some say it was a tragedy of character and some a tragedy of fate. Both of them play a big part in the development of the storyline. The two "star-crossed" lovers are faced with a dilemma because of their "rival" families. And it is no coincidence that events occur that lead to their deaths. Many facts come to prove that it really was a tragedy of character. Right at the beginning, in the prologue, it is learned that the families of Romeo and Juliet, the Capulets and the Montagues, have been in a vicious feud for a very long time. This immediately starts a connection between the two lovers. The families are extremely aggressive towards each other and are always causing trouble in Verona where they live. He often starts arguments and fights between the two sides. Because of this they were extremely inpatient and often took risks to be with each other. Love at first sight is something that has always been speculated about. They believed that they truly loved each other, something that cannot be determined in only three days. If the Capulets and the Montagues had not been enemies then Romeo and Juliet's love for each other wouldn't have been a problem in the first place. Many aspects of this play would have been different if the characters reacted differently. If Tybalt's hot-headed nature hadn't caused him to kill Mercutio then Romeo wouldn't have killed Tybalt, which wouldn't have caused him to be banished, which wouldn't have made things so complicated for Juliet's plan to work out. Then after about four days, with only two encounters, the couple got secretly married. This made Juliet's plan fail because Romeo did not receive her letter and died because of this chain of events. They rushed too quickly into a relationship and that is what hurt them the most in the end. This character had a lot to do with the sequence of events that happened which were associated with their deaths. If the families hadn't been in a feud, they probably wouldn't even have known each other. e their families were always in conflict. He usually does not know how to control himself therefore this leads to even more conflict.
