Marxism
It is hard to imagine that the powerful individual, Stalin, was once a peasant himself who was always under strict rule of the Tsarist regime. Stalin, as a young man who hated the political system he was under, was introduced to Marxism, a political philosophy which he became very interested in and devoted to. Marxism is a theory that the class system should be destroyed and that all citizens should be completely equal. Stalin, however, upon achieving authority, oppressed his countrymen unlike any other leader in history, forcing them to work unbelievably hard and killing 30 million people. In George Orwell's 1984, the main character, Winston, is also the enemy of an oppressive regime, as Stalin was. Winston was under a political system where the Party, with Big Brother as its leader, had complete control over its citizens; Winston found the Party's methods unjust and wished for its overthrow, resulting in Winston's rebellious actions. Similarly, both Stalin and Winston believed in a system where there is no such thing as different classes, and one where there is no oppression. Stalin's actions later on match those of Winston when both go into opposition against their current political systems. Stalin, like Winston, would hav
All of these being similar methods used in Big Brother's regime. Stalin joined the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, which can be seen as along the lines with Winston joining the Brotherhood. This would lead him to hate the Tsarist regime because he began to see the faults of the political system he was under, now knowing about politics. I have come to believe that Stalin, the perfect fit for Big Brother's image, was once himself similar to the role played by Winston, and that this dramatic change is due to doing whatever he saw was to his advantage at a certain moment or his current situation that would put him under less control and give him more power; unlike Stalin, Winston wasn't able to escaping control, instead was crushed by the Party. Sounds familiar to Big Brother doesn't it, where Winston would be one of Stalin's crushed opponents. This leads to Stalin's opportunity for power. This lead to Winston's hated towards the Party's regime, where he had to follow a constant routine, which he was obliged to carry out, having no other choice except to do it do it day after day. Therefore, Stalin seeing his chance to become Big Brother, takes it, and is successful. In contrast, Stalin was part of huge rebellious group which consisted of a large number of people who were able to break from the control of the Tsarist regime. I do believe that anyone who is aware of being under an oppressive state and is willing to fight for their freedom will carry out the steps that Winston and Stalin performed. Winston may have seen how oppressive the Party was but he was never able to affect anyone else. While Stalin was in power he was afraid of conspiracies, which resulted in Stalin arresting and executing many people in what was called "Strain's Purges. e a hideout where illegal actions were carried out. With Stalin's tricky and smart maneuvering within the Party he became the leader of the USSR.
