After producing the film ¡®Gallipoli¡¯, Peter Wier needed a slogan that would have a considerable impact in the advertising world. ¡± The impact of this on the popular Australian psyche would have been incredibly dramatic. The troops and the thousands who followed them onto the beaches of Gallipoli and later to the fields of France were really a cut above other soldiers. One way in which this was achieved was through the use of clothing. There is no mention of the tasks women underwent, nor any connection or relationships with them. More likely they were thinking about Turkish bullets and bayonets. So developed the Anzac Spirit that has continued on through the twentieth century, setting standards for others to follow and build on, spirit that is the envy of many military forces throughout the world. The two finest uses of music in the film where when the inexperienced soldiers where departing by boat to set out to Egypt for training and following the initial lines of assault which had failed miserably, leaving the remainder of the soldiers in despair. Maurice Jarre¡¯s ¡®Oxyge¨¾e¡¯, played during the opening credits and again later during a desert scene really adds a desired effect to the movie. gles in the movie allows the audience to be able to experience the events that take place, rather than just watching them. The masculinity in ¡®Gallipoli¡¯ is that of a typical Australian; bronzed body, medium build and very tough. Disheartening melodies combined with slow tempos, played in a minor key, was all that was necessary to illustrate the men¡¯s despair, as they sat, their comrades fallen around them. The way the Australians wear their military uniforms as opposed to the British and the exotic Egyptian garments all add up to form part of the bigger picture. They won the hearts of the world and they showed that, no matter how big the odds, they were still ready to go up against it. But heroes they became, symbols of a new nation.
