Whats Eating Gilbert Grape

             There are four quotes from the film 'Whets Eating Gilbert Grape' directed by Lasse Hallstrom, that helps to show Gilbert Grape's development from being extremely passive to being hopeful and independent. This essay shows how he transposed.
             At the beginning of the film 'Whets Eating Gilbert Grape' by Lasse Hallstrom Gilbert was noticeably distant and refined (I do not think that is what you mean). There are two specific quotes captured from the first piece of film that support the statement that Gilbert was very quiescent. The first quote was taken from the beginning of the film and was said by Gilbert himself, to his brother Arnie who is mentally challenged when he asked Gilbert as the caravans drove past if they were going to do that one day and to this he replied, 'We're not going anywhere.' This quotation from the film shows that Gilbert had no hopes for the future as he felt his mother and brother through loyalty chained him to Endora.
             Also taken from the beginning of the film, which explains Gilbert's idleness, is the quote said by Betty Carver, the married woman whom he was having an affair with – 'I chose you because you'd always be the same. You'd never leave', shows that even outsiders thought Gilbert would not leave or be eccentric in changing quickly. She believes he is stable and completely committed to Endora and that their love affair could go on forever and not be interrupted by eccentricness. (Wrong context)
             They were all proved wrong when Becki arrives in Gilbert's town, Endora, in a caravan convoy. She changes Gilbert and he starts to think about where he is in life and where he wants to be.
