BS2000: The Art of Production
Dealing almost strictly with the production of beats and creation of rapping over sampling, Adam Horovitz and partner Amery "AWOL" Smith of the group BS2000 have put out a unique blend of music in a genre that cannot simply be titled. Their recently released second album "Simply Mortified" has gotten great responses from many fans of the type of hip-hop and "lo-fi" production that BS2000 and artists its genre pride itself on. In the course of the past decade changes in the production of beats and music in general have become more and more apparent in different genres. Perhaps the most effected type of music has been the techno and dance music that have taken production into a whole new realm. Adam Horovitz of the "The Beastie Boys," has now melded his own form of beats, lyrics and production into this new side project.
There is a lot that cannot be said about this music because so much of it is derived from the feeling one gets from listening to it. The music is the fuel by which these fans run, and with every new album a new angle is created for the genre. Rap music was only known to be part of the African-American culture until three white boys called "The Beastie Boys" aided in putting rap as part of the mainstream. Some people attach themselves to the drum, while others choose the organ or piano. I don't feel the intention of BS2000 is to sell as many records as possible, which perceptually could be a motive for an artist of Moby's stature since his music has reached the popular music apex. nd in the culture of this music is an inherent tie to dance and movement in listeners, from the simplest tap of the foot or a clap to the beat. People are certain to wonder what is attracting a person of Horovitz's stature to such a lesser-known genre of music, but he is already used to this since he was a vital part to bringing rap music to the masses in the 1980's. As quoted by the members of BS2000, "this is a project based on being fun, an outlet of sorts, something different. It truly produces a different and unique atmosphere. BS2000 takes on a monumental task because it carries Adrock's fame with it, so a lot more is expected of it since a respected artist is showing intense interest in this type of music. The buzz for a band like BS2000 is unlikely to reach the level of other such artists in the more mainstream genre, like the Dust Brothers, Chemical Brothers or Moby. The starkness of the mainstream music in this genre is overwhelmingly demolished by BS2000 so that the feeling of fun, happiness and better days is provided for their audience. The feeling is one of pure fun and entertainment, which is an undeniable result of this music's greatness. " I will vouch that this is definitely different, but I also feel that its substance is more creative and fun than anything else I have ever heard.
