A Rose For Miss Emily
Did you think the town's people treated Emily Grierson fairly or too severe? In response to the story "A Rose For Emily" I certainly believe the town's people treated Ms Emily fairly. Ms Emily was a very anti-social individual she never took the time to communicate with the locals, so in exchange the people in the town didn't know what was going on in Ms Emily's personal life they only assumed. After the death of Ms Emily's father she could have attempted to establish a personal relationship with the town's people, but instead she began to stay indoor more often. Emily's behavior was more reclusive, she projected herself to be worthy than other women; it was said that the Griersons held themselves too high. Basically, the harsh treatment that was given to the people in the town was reciprocated. According to the narrator, the town's people knew Emily's father was dead and that she kept the body for three days before breaking down and turning his body over to the morgue. After the death of Emily's father the town's people decided to check on her out of curiosity instead of pity; in any event, if another person was suppose to project such psychotic behavior as Ms Emily did most likely the authorities wouldn't have waited
Instead they went out of their way to accommodate Ms Emily by getting four of their men to sanitize Ms Emily's property by breaking the cellar door and sprinkle lime there as well as the outbuildings. Moreover, the town's people took the time out of their personal life to visit Ms Emily but still she didn't show them any gratitude. And also saying," I have no taxes in Jefferson. Repeatedly, the narrator wanted to pity Ms Emily by saying the women in the town only went to Ms Emily's funeral out of curiosity" why should they show any emotions towards Ms Emily? when they did not have a personal relationship with her. Furthermore, Judge Stevens also made excuses for Ms Emily by blaming her Negro servant by saying "it's probably that Nigger of hers killed a snake of rat in the yard. When visiting Emily's house they were all seated before Ms Emily entered the room and upon her presence they rose to greet Ms Emily. And also when they did not like to see Ms Emily with Homer Barron instead of addressing her they notify a family member. First she blatantly avoided contact with the tax collectors. for her to give in the body they would have resumed to force much sooner. By all means, Judge Stevens went out of his way by getting four men to basically burglarize themselves onto Ms Emily's property. And a week later the mayor wrote her himself, offering to call or send his car for Emily. On the other hand, the lack of initiative Emily showed to Mayor Aldermen regarding her tax notice. In any event, the Mayor could have taken force or even shown some aggression towards Ms Emily but he did not considering a woman of Ms Emily status. In retrospect, the town's people could have projected some aggression towards Ms Emily in more that one situation but they did not because they respected a lady of her status.
