Single Sex Schooling

My Aim: To provide a analytical insight in to the devastating consequences of single sex education. Target Audience: General audience. Specifically educated people with an interest in educational processes and theories. The long standing debate over the success of single sex schooling has again becoming current topic for debate throughout the United State's educational and legislative committees. The reemergence of this highly deliberated education model comes as a result of the Bush administration's action in removing the barriers which once prevented US public schools from segregating the sexes.Today the debate over the validity of single sex education has been sanitised with the advice of so called 'educational experts' and the results from a number of scientific, yet somewhat empirical studies, on benefits of such an educational model. Yet, the creation of such a system was originally never intended to improve a student's academic success or contentment. Rather the segregation was a cultural mandate developed at a time when sexual segregation was considered only natural. The introduction and enforcement of single sex education dates back to the


Today's economic environment has hastened the church to review its stance on sexual integration. As a direct result the Catholic Church has restructured half of its previously segregated schools to sustain future profitability. While society has been fighting to remove the debilitating barriers dividing the sexes it seems as if this old adversary has raised its head in the newfounded conservative push for educational segregation. first appearance of a woman's right to education. But most importantly students gain respect for sexual differences and an understanding and appreciation of the enormous similarities. The church has viewed coeducational learning "as a system founded upon naturalism and the denial of original sin, and a premise developed upon a deplorable confusion of ideas that mistakes equality with the illegitimate association of the sexes. A large number of public schools in California who 'post deregulation' have experimented with single-sex education have nearly all been shut down or have reverted back to a co-educational model. Advocates of segregation promise an educational system with fewer distractions, increased same sex role models and a custom tailored learning environment which provides benefit to the academic progress of a student. Though, despite the obviously grossly archaic, fanatical and outdated reasoning for the 'genesis' (so to speak) of such a model of education, why does there remain a push for the further establishment of single sex learning environments? More importantly, why are world leaders, like Bush, even considering such solicitations from conservative educational groups? The reason is that arguments put forward in favor of sexual segregation at first seem quite appealing and forthcoming. Students participating in such an education through their vitally important formative years lack the social education and development which their coeducational peers are developing. The real world evidence, which contradicts the benefits of segregation, is for ever mounting as society becomes conscience of the importance of establishing a healthy psychological balance in society's youth. This is a realisation which is daunting to say the least. The more forward-thinking educators and researchers argue that the academic success of both boys and girls is influenced nearly entirely by small classes, strong curricula, dedicated teachers and equitable teaching practices and has very little to do with a single-sex settings. A student at a segregated school gains a social understanding and conditioning which conflicts with modern day society.
