Comparison of Richard Connel's The Most Dangerous Game and Thomas Wolfe's The Child by Tiger
The story “The Most Dangerous Game” it was a physical conflict between two persons representing good and evil. It was a conflict against the desecration of human life done by General Zaroff. General Zaroff was a vicious and barbaric antagonist who hunts and kills human life for the thrill of it. Rainsford due to circumstances was catapulted into the position of protecting mankind and defending the sanctity of life. At first it was a clash of ideas with Zaroff but it was later transformed into a clash of mental stamina-who outwits the other. It was in Rainsford’s hands on . . .
It is an everyday battle of choosing between good and evil and the discretion lies within us. There is a need for us to address that social problem and the short story “The Child by Tiger” depicts it well. It shows how we are trapped and torn from the dilemma of getting the right choice. It also shows the different social climates abroad and how it is related to what is happening presently in our country. Although it was almost impossible to think that Dick committed such a crime, it was also imperative that it was a long struggle inside him and in which he was defeated. I believe that “The Most Dangerous Game” lacked the reality in presenting its moral significance. The difference in the treatment among the rich and the poor is tantamount to the Black and White conflict years ago. how to save himself from Zaroff and eventually kill him in the end. On the other hand, the conflict of good and evil was shown in the person Dick Prosser. Dick’s religiousness and strong faith in God was highly emphasized in the short story. It was an internal struggle of good and evil. “The Child by Tiger” mirrors how we experience internal struggles in life. The conflict was resolved with the death of Zaroff-an obvious sign of the victory of good over evil.
