With this egalitarian outlook, America sounds like a great place to live. Primarily, our class is designated by what material possessions we have at this given moment. It really means we are able to transcend those classes and move up or down.
You see, although we have a “class-less society,” that does not mean we are totally without classes in our country.
Overall, I think that race is playing less of a role in determining social class. It has certainly gotten better since the 1960’s, but we are no where near everyone being treated equally. People from different backgrounds and origins usually have more to offer.
It is through popular culture that our economy is driven. They want so badly to live the affluent lifestyle right now, they will never own anything. That is where we will find popular culture. For decades, individuals have been held back from achieving their true potential due to the color of their skin or a misplaced vowel in their last name. Not even what we own or how much money we have.
