Cigarette smoking in public places has been an issue in our society for a long time now. As early as in 1972, the scientific community has begun gathering evidence about the adverse health effects of secondhand smoke. The report of surgeon general concluded that


Tobacco industries do not only deny the health risks of secondhand smoke, but they even denied in past the health risks of smoking itself. They have accused the poor science, poor research, and raised many questions about statistical significance and assertions of ignorance (Garrison 47). The Food and Drug Administration began classifying nicotine as a regulated drug (Cox 147). In 1993, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the report assessing the health risks of a secondhand smoke-"Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). they should encourage their legislators to maintain or strengthen bans on smoking in public places. The antismoking drive has begun just recently. It has essentially the same chemical components as direct smoke, and smoking itself increases the risk of cancer by more than thirty percent. San Diego: Greenhaven Press, 1997. Institute recommended that employees design a separate area for smoking (Garrison 44). Wherever possible smoking should not be permitted in work places.
