Marijuana In America

             Marijuana. The word itself can strike fear into the hearts of parents across the nation. For some reason marijuana has found itself on the most wanted list of law enforcement officials throughout the country. How is this possible when alcohol is responsible for over 100, 000 deaths a year.
             According to the Scientific American and the Addiction Research Foundation of Ontario, 45% of all deaths in automobile accidents are attributed to alcohol. From countless conversations held with anonymous individuals it is a safe assumption that when under the influence of marijuana a person can still have good judgement in situations. Can the same be said for those under the influence of alcohol? Everyone knows that alcohol imposes a certain effect on individuals while driving that will sooner or later result in harm or injury to either themselves or some innocent victim. The irony of this all is that alcohol is legal and marijuana, while tests and studies worldwide have shown that it is for the most part harmless, is still frowned upon like some corrupt tool used to sweep away all the innocent children of the world. This is why many people find it easy to compare the current marijuana prohibition to the alcohol prohibition of old.
             The evidence that prohibition doesn't work is everywhere you turn and look. This is proven by the simple fact that no matter where an individual goes all it takes is a few questions and a possible phone call or so and within minutes he or she has marijuana in their possession. Now if prohibition works how can a buyer still find marijuana easily and in all amounts. If marijuana were legal it could be regulated and the government could easily turn the billions of dollars spent to keep it out of the country into a profit made from the taxing of it.
