Cost of life

"911, what is your emergency?" "Oh my god! My house is on fire and my baby is trapped inside! Please help!" "Don't worry, help is on the way." A human life is priceless, and if destroyed, it can never be replaced. Death will always be a part of life, but it can be prevented, and lives are saved everyday by men and women who risk their own lives for others. These men and women are the workers of the fire service and the emergency medical response. Every day they risk their lives to save someone that they have never met before, and will probably never meet again. Minimal amounts of your taxes go to firefighter's and EMT's salaries, and they do their jobs at no cost to the general public. They don't give you a bill to be paid in order to save your life. To do a job like this, one would think that they would be paid huge amounts of money, but that is not the case. Firefighters and EMTs (emergency medical technicians) put their lives on the line and save lives every day for pay that isn't equal to the work that they do. Fire fighters willingly put themselves in danger for the safety and protection of life and property, and for this service the average firefighter is paid around $50,000 a year. Everyday the

They are the ones who respond to car accidents and have to cut dead bodies out of cars using the "jaws of life". They deal with things as common as heart attacks, and as outrageous as charred body parts or missing limbs. They can take a man that is on the verge of death and keep him stable until they get him to a hospital. Their salaries need to be increased simply on the basis that they risk their lives and save the lives of others daily. No matter the condition of a human body, an EMT will do his or her best to preserve life. The men and women of the fire service industry are always at work, 365 days per year. The list of duties that firefighters and EMTs perform is endless, but all of their work is selfless and done for others. It is one of the most hazardous materials a person can come into contact with, and they do it daily to save lives. Which is a ridiculous salary in comparison to the numerous lives they save every day. Still not convinced? Well next time you or someone you know is in need, just ask yourself how much how much you'd pay to keep your life or the life of someone you love. Firefighters and EMTs perform their countless acts of heroism everyday for pay that is in no way equal to the work they do. They live in a firehouse with other firefighters for an extended period of time, away from their families. Like all good deeds, their hard work should be properly rewarded. Depending on the situation, nature, and scene of an accident, they can use anything from ambulances, snowmobiles, and helicopters to transport victims to the proper care.
