In society, it is clear that man is not free. Over 200 million Untouchables in India are subjected to discrimination, discriminatory practices and violence not only because of economic factors, but also as a result of religious intolerance. They have no freedom and are imprisoned within the four walls of their own houses. The Untouchables, who are mostly landless agricultural labourers, live in degrading poverty and suffer oppression and discrimination at the hands of people above their castes. If man was said to be free, why is it that they must go to school until they have reached a specific age? If man were free, it would not be compulsory to attend school. They have been prevented from exercising several of their fundamental rights -including the rights to association, freedom of expression, education and employment.
